OPEN PROJECT
Evaluation techniques and improvement technologies for soil fertility from the perspective of a nonlinear approach to the processes involved (Complexity science)
English version. Romanian version and Bibliography below.
Document retrieved from the archives of the UNESCO Chair of Geodynamics within the Institute of Geodynamics. The original text has been preserved as such, while the bibliography has been brought up to date through the addition of recent and relevant references.
Context
Empirical studies and scientific modelling based on the nonlinear approach to bio-geophysical processes have revealed remarkable properties of the structures obtained by fragmentation [1, 2], a noteworthy one being the scale-invariance property (fractal structure) of the distribution of the rock fragments and microfragments obtained (from the scale of asteroids to that of the microgranules in soil). The interaction between the living and the non-living, manifested in the complex processes that take place in the soil at the soil–root interface, is capable of modifying this distribution in a way measurable through the technique provided by fractal analysis. The theme aims to capitalize on the expertise in the field of fractal geometry, deterministic chaos theory and computational science in order to understand how soil quality can be evaluated and improved, beyond statistical analysis and classical parametric evaluation.
Objectives
– the study of soil structure from the perspective of fractal geometry;
– the study of water diffusion anomalies in porous structures; implications for the characterization of soil quality;
– the study of the particularities of certain chemical or biochemical reactions taking place in porous media, on the basis of a nonlinear approach, of chaos theory and of self-organizing processes;
– the development of an integrated soil-quality evaluation technology based on concepts, models and theories provided by Complexity science.
PROIECT DESCHIS
Obiective
– studiul structurii solului, din perspectiva geometriei fractale;
– studiul anomaliilor de difuzie în structuri poroase a apei; implicații în caracterizarea calității solului;
– studiul particularităților unor reacții chimice sau biochimice, desfășurate în medii poroase, în baza unei abordări neliniare, a teoriei haosului și a proceselor cu auto-organizare;
